SITREP #028

Results Should Never Become Immunity.

STATUS : Compromised

LOCATION : Leadership

RISK : High

The results excused the behaviour. The culture paid the price.

Every organisation values high performers. They drive results, solve problems and often become indispensable. The challenge comes when their performance starts to excuse behaviour that wouldn't be accepted from anyone else. Standards become inconsistent, colleagues notice and confidence in leadership begins to erode.

In some organisations, exceptional commercial results, technical expertise or operational knowledge gradually become a shield against poor behaviour. The immediate results appear impressive, but the longer term cost is paid through morale, engagement and the quiet acceptance of double standards.

The irony is that protecting one individual often comes at the expense of many others. High performance should raise expectations, not lower them. Results should influence recognition, but should never become immunity from accountability.
