SITREP #006
Expectations Were Clear. The Tools, Systems and Capacity Weren’t.
STATUS : Common
LOCATION : Performance
RISK : High
Holding people accountable for outcomes they were never equipped to deliver is not a performance strategy.
Organisations tend to be clear about what they expect. Targets are set, standards are communicated and accountability is reinforced.
Yet when performance falls short, the focus often turns to the individual before questioning the environment they are operating within. I've seen teams expected to deliver exceptional results using inadequate systems, broken processes, insufficient capacity and opposing priorities. The expectations were crystal clear, the conditions required to achieve them weren't.
Holding people accountable for outcomes they were never properly equipped to deliver doesn’t lead to high performance, it tends to create mass frustration.
