SITREP #002
Blame Thrives Where Ownership Is Absent
STATUS : Predictable
LOCATION : Accountability
RISK : High
Where ownership is unclear, blame quickly fills the gap.
When things go wrong, the first response tells you a lot about an organisation. Teams with strong ownership ask:
"What happened?"
Teams without it ask:
"Who's responsible?"
One looks for understanding, whilst the other looks for someone to blame. But blame rarely solves a problem, it simply shifts focus away from it.
In healthy cultures, people take responsibility for outcomes. In unhealthy ones, people spend their energy deflecting attention to avoid taking responsibility for them. Where ownership is absent, blame swiftly fills the gap.
